Former Arsenal  and France striker Thierry Henry  has announced his retirement from football. He officially retires after 20 years of entertaining football fanatics around the globe. The all time leading goal scorer for English Arsenal , says “It has been an incredible journey.” In a statement, the 37 year old French man also says; “I would like to thank all the fans, team-mates and individuals involved with AS Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls and, of course, the French national team that have made my time in the game so special. I have had some amazing memories (mostly good!) and a wonderful experience. I hope you have enjoyed watching as much as I have enjoyed taking part. See you on the other side.”

Angelina Jolie will miss the Los Angeles premiere of her movie  Unbroken  because she has chicken pox. Yes, the 39-year-old actress has chicken pox. Jolie posted a video on YouTube today explaining why she’d be missing the premiere of her new movie. Jolie said: “I just wanted to be clear and honest about why I will be missing the  Unbroken  events in the next few days … I will be home itching and missing everyone, and I can’t believe it ’cause this film means so much to me.” Chicken pox is primarily a child illness but it can be quite serious if caught when an adult. According to Jolie, she has a “mild bout” of chicken pox and isn’t too worried about the illness. In fact, she kind of thinks its funny. Peter Lik made history this week when he sold his photograph “Phantom” for an incredible $6.5 million. Lik said : “The purpose of all my photos is to capture the power of nature and convey it in a way that inspires someone to  feel passionate and connected to the image. Certain textures and contours found in nature lend themselves beautifully to black and white photography. The naira fell by four per cent against the dollar to 187.05 at the interbank foreign exchange market on Wednesday. This is the highest fall in five years on a closing basis, according to analysts. Foreign exchange market dealers linked the development to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s announcement that its Wednesday’s auction at the Retail Dutch Auction System window was the last for the year. It was learnt that traders and importers, who could not access the RDAS window, rushed to the interbank forex market to place their demand. This, dealers said, led to huge demand for the greenback at the interbank market, forcing the interbank rate to close at 187.05, down from 180.50 on Tuesday. The CBN, however, said the official window of the foreign-exchange auctions would reopen on January 5, 2015. Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the extremist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, has threatened to attack the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for mobilising support against the sect. In well publicised statements, Sanusi asked Kano State residents as well as vigilantes, to arm and defend themselves against future terrorist attacks following a recent attack on the Kano Central Mosque. The latest threat was contained in a video posted on  youtube  and viewed on Wednesday by our correspondent. Shekau condemned Sanusi and adherents of most Islamic sects, describing them as infidels who have abandoned the Islamic doctrine. He said they should be ready to repent and practise Islam as preached by his sect, or be ready to face the consequences. A Lagos-based man, Mr. Adeyemi Oduyoye, has accused the authorities of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi- Araba, Lagos, of negligence. Oduyoye, who spoke to our correspondent on Monday, claimed that his wife, Folake,who was on admission at Ward A4 of the hospital, died due to mismanagement of her case by the hospital authorities. According to him, health workers detained his 35-year-old wife because he was unable to settle her medical bills. Odudoye said his wife was referred to LUTH in September when she developed complications after undergoing a Caesarean Section at a private hospital in Surulere. He said, “She was at the Intensive Care Unit for 31 days, which cost us over N1.6m and I could only pay N300,000 after they discharged her. I promised that I would give them the rest but they refused to let her go home. “She developed another complication while we were being detained and they refused to give her any further treatment in spite of my plea. The Ogun Police State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers. They were said to have dispossessed some residents of Heritage Estate, Akute, in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, of their valuables with a toy gun. The police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspects were embarking on another operation when the police caught them. Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, told  The PUNCH  on Wednesday that the police rounded up the suspects less than 24 hours after the robbery incident. The suspects were identified as John David and Bassey James. New York (AFP) - Instagram, the photo-sharing social network owned by Facebook, announced Wednesday it has more than 300 million users as it unveiled a new system to authenticate celebrity members. The update means Instagram has for the first time overtaken Twitter, which claimed 284 million active users at the end of September.
